10 Must-Have Cat Books for Your Collection

Most every cat lover has a library of feline-centric books, right?  Whether your library is at the kitten stage, or if you’re a seasoned bibliophile of all things cat-book, here are some titles Team CatCon suggest you get right meow! (Photo credit: BibBornem)

1) CatButt: An Off-Color Adult Coloring Book for Cat Lovers, by Honey Badger Coloring

If you’ve ever thought, “I love to color. If only I had a cheeky (see what we did there) coloring book full of cat butts, I’d be totally set.” Well, here you go.

2)  Herding Cats, by Sarah Andersen

The third in the “Sarah Scribbles” comic collection, Herding Cats finds Sarah, an introverted, anxious, socially awkward cartoonist, navigating life and facing struggles in “adulting.” It’s funny, relatable (who among us hasn’t called our cat “My mush, Cutie squish, Kitten pie”?), and most important, full of cats.

3) Catnip: A Love Story, by Michael Korda

A man, a love for doodling, a home full of cats, and a deep affection for his wife is what you’ll find inside the pages of Catnip: A Love Story. It’s endearing and poignant, and a wonderful tribute to a lifetime of love.

4) Cats on Catnip, by Andrew Marttila

Andrew Marttila (better known as ‘The Cat Photographer,’ and Kitten Lady’s S.O.) creates page after page of hilarious nip-infused cat photos in his follow-up to Shop Cats of New York, Cats on Catnip. Out this June, it promises to have you rolling like — well, a blitzed cat in a pile of nip.

5) Texts from Mittens, by Angie Bailey

Mittens, a tech-savvy tuxie, creates oodles of unnecessary drama by texting his human about annoyances and shenanigans involving the wacky neighbor, Drunk Patty, his catnip-addicted best friend, Stumpy, and the filthy hound “brother,” Earl.

6) Lil BUB’s Lil Book: The Extraordinary Life of the Most Amazing Cat on the Planet, by Lil BUB

This book has become a true classic — just like the real-life cutie-pie by whom it’s written. Who doesn’t need a Lil BUB magic in their life? You can also get your in-person fix during BUB’s meet-and-greet during CatCon on August 4 & 5. Buy tickets and meet-and-greet passes here.

7) Star Trek: The Next Generation Cats, by Jenny Parks

If you’ve ever attended CatCon, (or Cat Art Show, for that matter) you’ve likely seen the fab artwork of pop culture aficionado Jenny Parks. Well, she’s back “on Trek” again with this companion to her  original Star Trek Cats. Tour the bridge with Captain Picard, visit the holodeck, and take part in other crew missions to help you “live long and pros-purr.”

8) Breaking Cat News: Cats Reporting on the News that Matters to Cats, by Georgia Dunn

Syndicated cartoonist Georgia Dunn’s collection of newsworthy cat comics is nothing short of hysterical. With field reports like, “The Vacuum Cleaner is Back” and “Everything is Broken and We Don’t Know Who Did It”, this is truly cat news you can use.

9) Crafting With Cat Hair, by Kaoiri Tsutaya

This favorite has been around awhile, but with a cat-tastic title and subject like that, it’ll never go out of style. Seriously — we all have cat hair a-plenty, so why not turn it into something amazing?

10) I Could Pee on This, and Other Poems by Cats, by Francesco Marciuliano

A best seller, from comedian and kitty sage, Francesco Marcuiliano! Anyone with a cat can relate to Marcuiliano’s hilarious yet en pointe insight into the mind of our beloved feline, which inspired Closed Door (“LET ME IN LET ME IN LET ME IN”), Nudge, and other classics in kitty literature.
