5 Benefits of Having a Feline

This year marks CatCon’s fifth Anni-furr-sary! To celebrate, we’re making lists of fives! Today we’re sharing 5 benefits of having a cat.

5. Having a kitty reduces levels of stress and anxiety

Research shows that snuggling with your kitty releases the feel-good hormone oxytocin as well as increases serotonin and dopamine levels. I need 33 CCs of kitty snuggles stat!

4. A cat’s purr is healing

We all can attest to the fact that a cat’s purr is comforting, but it turns out purring is healing too! The frequency of a purr, which fluctuates between 20-140 Hz, is medically proven to be therapeutic. Awwwww!

3. Cats make men more attractive

Where are all our cat dads at? According to one study’s findings, women are more attracted to men who own cats. Let the records show, my own purrsonal anecdotal evidence backs this up. Meow meow!

2. Kitties are good for the heart (literally!)

Having a feline decreases the risk of heart attack and stroke because all that kitty-loving lowers your blood pressure. Did anyone else’s heart grow 10 times larger just reading that?

1. Even watching a cat video will boost your mood

Indiana University researchers found that simply watching cat videos make you feel better. They report that this “boosts viewers’ energy and positive emotions and decreases negative feelings.” Finally! A justification for watching kitties on Youtube for 2 hours straight.
