Koo Koo Kanga Roo Tells All!

We had a chance to catch up with the Minneapolis based duo, Koo Koo Kango Roo last week, after they created this awesome video for us for this year’s CatCon! (BTW, CatCon tickets are on sale MEOW!)

Can you tell us a bit about your band ensembles?

We are a band that requires activewear at all times. Our live show involves lots of movement and dancing so you need to be sure to wear something that can breathe and flex.

Your song CATZ makes an appearance in the video you created for CatCon. We hear a number of 80’s influences like DEVO and Pet Shop Boys in the other cat songs in your album, Viral Songs About Cats. What other bands have been influential in your creative process?

Devo/Wiki

DEVO is dope. Musically, we like rap music and top 40 jams. Also early 00’s pop punk bands. Our live show is inspired by back up dancer moves and stand-up comedy.

You have a number of events coming up, including a stint in Minneapolis and London. Can you tell us what a typical Koo Koo Kanga Roo show is like, and what to expect (without giving too much away).

We do a dance-a-long comedy show that kids can come to. You can expect to sweat a lot and laugh at how dumb we look.

Your album, Triangle for Success – was Tony Robbins or perhaps Oprah an influence here?

Triangle of Success is a audio guide to achieving your dreams. Tony Robbins and Zig Ziglar helped us get to where we are today. This album is how we pay it forward. We’ve been living our dreams for years – so can you.

What’s the biggest misconception about you?

That we are brothers. Comrades yes. Brothers no.

Do you think we might see you at CatCon in 2018?

I hope so. We want to play our cat songs for the most intense cat people in the world! Also we want to pet all the kitties.
