Planning to adopt a cat or kitten at CatCon this June? Come prepared with these tips from our adoption partner, Best Friends Animal Society.
What is Best Friends Animal Society?
Best Friends Animal Society is a leading national animal welfare organization dedicated to ending the killing of dogs and cats in America’s shelters. In addition to running lifesaving programs in partnership with more than 2,600 animal welfare groups across the country, Best Friends has regional centers in New York City, Los Angeles, Atlanta and Salt Lake City, and operates the nation’s largest no-kill sanctuary for companion animals.
Founded in 1984, Best Friends is a pioneer in the no-kill movement and has helped reduce the number of animals killed in shelters nationwide from an estimated 17 million per year to about 800,000. That means there are still nearly 2,200 dogs and cats killed every day in shelters, just because they don’t have safe places to call home. We are determined to bring the country to no-kill by the year 2025. Working collaboratively with shelters, rescue groups, other organizations and you, we will end the killing and Save Them All.
What cats and kittens will be at CatCon?
Best Friends will be bringing cats and kittens of all ages from Los Angeles shelters.
Will I get to interact with adoptable cats?
Absolutely! The Adoption Village is set up so you can play with and get to know your potential new best friend.
Can I walk around CatCon with my newly adopted kitty?
For the safety of your new pet as well as our other guests, you will not be permitted to walk the floor after you’ve picked up your cat. If you decide to adopt early in the day, Best Friends will keep your cat safe for you until you’re ready to leave.
How long will adoptions take?
We will try to make the adoption process as quick and easy as possible.
What is the adoption fee?
The adoption fee for all cats and kittens is $25. Plus, all kitty adoptions are 2 for 1—bring home a pair for just $25.

All are welcome to visit with the cats in the adoption center. If you decide to adopt a cat, you will need to fill out an adoption survey. Adoption surveys are available online or you can fill yours out in person at CatCon.
Do you do a home check?
No, we do not require home checks. You can take home your cat the same day you adopt.
What should I do to prepare my home for my new cat?
We recommend you set up a starter room in your home in preparation for your new cat. Make sure the space is outfitted with food and water bowls, litterbox, cat bed, toys, and a scratching post. As your cat gets used to his or her new digs, you can slowly start to introduce them to the rest of the house.
What should I expect in my cat’s first week with me?
It might take your new kitty a little time to adjust to his or her surroundings. Be patient and give your furry friend the time and space they need to feel at home with their new family.
What if I have trouble with my new cat?
