Catching Up With… The CatCon Muse

Journalist Susan Michals was inspired by her cat Miss Kitty Pretty Girl to curate the first Cat Art Show in 2014, and later to create CatCon. Also known as The CatCon Muse, Miss K gives you an exclusive behind-the-scenes glimpse at her fabulous life, with a few hints about what you can expect at CatConLA 2016.

I’m in a Domestic Partnership. I prefer roommate, but it’s fine. I was flying solo for about 7 years, and then Olive – as my human calls her – joined us about 4 years ago. Right now we’re both 11, so it’s a borderline “Golden Girls” household around here.

I’m a Pisces. At least I think I am. My mom got me on May 5th at a shelter in LA on Crenshaw. I was 8 weeks old-ish. She stopped by in the afternoon, and she asked the shelter people if that was the date I had arrived, (like maybe I got there in the morning). They said no, that was going to be my last day. She saved me!

I have never spent one night away from home. Even though my human occasionally goes on trips, (why she would consider being away from me for even a minute is beyond me) she gets another human to come and stay at our house, which we call, Chez Bongo.

I have many aliases beyond “The Muse.” My full name is Miss Kitty Pretty Girl, but I sometimes go by “Miss Boo,” “Miss K,” and my personal favorite, “The Prettiest Girl in the House.”

I weigh 10 lbs, 2 ounces. (It’s always those last 2 ounces that are the hardest to lose).

I’m a discerning art lover and was very involved with curating Cat Art Show and Cat Art Show 2: The Sequel. Here I am assessing the work of Gatos Ilimitados Agas from Venezuela.

I’m a super early riser (no surprise there).

I’m a Maine Coon and I love to talk, but I also talk with my eyes. I’m very expressive. Me and my human could talk or not talk for hours, and still find something to talk about.

I’m not a fan of catnip. Tried it once, but didn’t inhale.

I will not be at CatCon. No way. I hear it was very noisy and crowded on the Con floor last year, which is simply not a good situation for a Muse, or most any cat, for that matter. You may come pay tribute to me at the CatCon Muse Lounge on Level 1, where my portrait will be on display.
